Child alarm
Rob W writes…
It strikes me that there is increasing concern about the security of children who may be at risk of abuction in playgrounds, shopping centres, theme parks etc. Here is my idea; take a standard telephone pager and encapsulate it in a housing with a suitably loud alarm speaker. Then configure it so that when the pager is dialled, the unit emits an alarm to indicate to passers-by that the child is in danger and may be being taken against their will. If the unit could be made small enough and tamper proof, then it could be attached to the child’s arm or leg so that it could not be removed by a would-be abductor.
Thus, as soon as the parent or guardian realises that their child by their side, they immediately use their mobile phone to dial the pager number. The child’s alarm will immediately go off allowing the adult to possibly locate the child by sound alone or at least alert bystanders that a crime may be being committed.
