Videophone Telly
Here at the Idea Volcano, we always enjoy a good battle in the marketplace. And reader Charlie sets up a mighty fine one around digital convergence–whatever you want that to mean. All we know is we see a good scrap between cable operators, mobile operators, and BT who want to own you. Of course, we’re behind the underdog but who will that be?
Charlie writes…
With TV companies providing our TV, broadband and phone lines, is it not time someone facilitated a service whereby when someone calls us on the phone, we can just press a button on our remote to have them appear on our TV? The perfect videophone.
By mounting a simple camera in (or on) our TV’s and using the existing screens it is really just a software issue - and because, usually wherever you are in the room you can both see and be seen by the TV that silly peering into the screen business of small videophones thus far is avoided.
For the record I can PROVE that i wrote to Alan Sugar about this BEFORE he started producing that poxy thing of his - he got the idea (video down broadband lines) but missed the basic premis - i.e morphing a phone with a TV.
