   Theres a downside with changing the colour of Cat’s Eyes in that the colours are specific already for the highway code

   Green for Junctions
   White for Lane Markers
   Yellow for Offside Boundary
   Red for Nearside Boundary

   We would need another colour but its a damn good idea !

   The problem with this is that it requires each catseye to emit light, rather than reflect, as things which are cold don’t change colour. This would mean that they would all use up electricity all the time, rather than simply reflecting the light hitting them.

   There are a number of cats eyes installations now going in which have LED emitters as well in them. Perhaps a flashing white cats eye would do the job ?

   Another idea I had a long time ago was for cats eyes to be LED driven and flash according to how far ahead the car infront was Going from a 1 second pluse for over 1/2 mile to a .5 second pulse for 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile and solid for anything closer.

   Perfect in the fog but I could never get past the sensing question of requiring induction loops every 1/4 mile.

   I think this might be deemed as a further distraction for the driver.

   I think most cars have a temperature sensor these days which gets sadly ignored.

   You’re right, they do already exist. I saw them on tv about 8 years ago and they are really clever, They were led, they charged themselves by solar and by being run over by vehicles, they turned blue when the temperature dropped, they turned red when they sensed that you were driving too close or there was still traffic ahead and i’m sure they done more things as well. Trouble is, they worked out too expensive.

   These do exist and are very cool. They used to have some near Salisbury where I used to live a few years ago. I guess there were just trial ones as it was just for a couple hundred yards or so. The LEDs were very bright and it would of been quite possible to follow the road without your headlights on in complete darkness.
