   It’s not a lit helmet but a friend turned me onto Exelite’s safety lights. They’re not cheap but then an accident would be more expensive. Would be interesting to see their technology integrated into a helmet.

   Unfortunately the issue is more to do with convincing people to have lights on their bike that the technology/product.

   What if you stuck or fastened say four of those flashing Christmas badges on your helmet. It would give you some idea of how it would look and you could see how effective it was in different riding positions. An inexpensive way of testing your idea which I like a lot.

   You could have so many cool designs! Little patterns all around the helmet etc.

   I was recently thinking about this and I thought that bike lights are very teeny and they would have a lot more presence if the lights on bikes were more like motorcycle lights. Makes them safer through cars giving more space. Car lights are so extremely bright that in a car, one often hardly sees bikes they are so small and dark and one is so dazzled by the intensity of car and other lights.

   I past a chap on a bike last night with a row of L E D lights on the front of his helmet so someone is on to the idea and producing helmets with lights embedded in them. It was only due to reading your idea that I noticed them and thought of you.

   I agree with John
   It is not the design that is needed. The problem lies with the cyclist obtaining a suitable light.
   The most popular unit would probably be zero initial cost with zero running cost. Also no wiring and easy to fit. Off course there must be no detriment/disadvantage to the cyclist. Unable to be stolen would also be an advantage.

   While there are disadvantages there will always be cyclists without lights.

   A possible solution might be an LED, coil and magnet combination that can be made cheap enough to be bought by businesses as a give-a-way. Kellogg’s, McDonalds and others might be interested if its novelty value was high enough.
   An object flashing when vibrated or rotated may be made into a versatile novelty for bikes, clothing and many other objects.
