The waste water or urine that we all secrete at various times through the day can contain substances that may give an indication of underlying or early stage disease. About 2.4 million people in the U K have diabetes, however 1 million do not know it yet. On average, people have diabetes for seven years before it is diagnosed. By then as many as half are developing serious complications such as heart disease, blindness, stroke, kidney failure and poor circulation that could lead to possible limb amputation. Urine can also indicate underlying malignancies, infections and kidney disease.

People regularly put bleach, a strong alkaline, in toilets. This makes them a lousy platform for testing pH level - you don't have a reliable baseline. It's much better to pee on a nice sterile strip.
